El Plomo Hot Springs (2.910 m. - 10.270 ft.)
Andes Range

Contemplating and relaxing in the depth of the Andes

Highlight

Natural hot springs with no infrastructure, in the heart of the mountain, in the depths of the magnificent Yeso valley. During this trajectory we will be able to spot the El Yeso reservoir, impressive mountains, rocks, and glaciers. During the summer it is possible to access the hot springs directly by car. In these conditions, the outing is carried out with no need to walk. During spring, the approximation to the hot springs hidden in a blanket of snow is a true luxury.

Description

At the end of the spectacular Yeso valley, and after bordering its reservoir, the car path ascends softly. It then narrows and increases its incline, in a zone quite green for its altitude. When turning north, we will see the great high plain where the hot springs are found hidden at first sight, but waiting for us. The Andean setting of this place is overwhelming. We are now in the depths of the Andes . The only thing left to do now is to put our bathing suits on and enjoy these pristine hot spring waters.

Time Required

Vehicle: 52 km. (32 mi.) of paved road, and another 33 km. (21 mi.) of dirt road. This takes a little more than 2 hours from Escuela Militar.

Total: One day. We will talk about the total time according to the snow conditions.

NOTE:
We offer the possibility of camping in the hot springs, enjoying a good Chilean wine. (In this case, it would correspond to category E pricing).

Season

October – April. Starting from the end of December it is possible to access the hot springs by vehicle, but in the months of October through December the snow guarantees solitude. Just a few hours of easy walk, and you will get a magical landscape with the hot springs hidden in a white blanket. During the summer, this is also a spectacular outing, but not a trek.

Keep in mind

This trekking will only take place if the weather forecast from the day before is adequate: Partly cloudy or better. See
