Andes Range

At the feet of America's roof

Highlight

We will look at the impressive Mount Aconcagua, the highest in America, in the middle of a beautiful Andean setting made up of lagoons and colorful mountains. We will look at the Puente del Inca (“the Inca's Bridge”), a beautiful and interesting natural monument, along with the Laguna del Inca (“the Inca's Lagoon") which is surrounded of imposing mountains covered in snow.

The Aconcagua`s Base has the characteristics of an outing, not a trek, making it suitable for anyone who is in good health.

Description

We will cross the Andes on the spectacular pass of Los Libertadores. Once the we've finished with the procedure for entering Argentina, we will visit Puente del Inca. This is a bridge that formed naturally. Presumably 10.000 years ago it was an ice bridge which cemented over time and was “built” at its base by hot spring water. This incredibly interesting natural formation is enhanced by a setting of impressive and colorful mountains.

Then we will move with our vehicle just 2 km. to begin our mini-walk through the valley of Horcones, at 2.850 m. (9.345 ft.). We will walk on a trail where we will see gigantic rocks. We will arrive to a lookout point with a great view of the spectacular south face of Aconcagua, king of Mountains in America. We will then go near the beautiful Horcones Lagoon with its blue-green color, to then return to our vehicle, where we will also be able to see fossils of a marine origin present in this place.

We will continue in the vehicle back to Chile. If the weather allows it, we will ascend on a dirt road to the majestic historic monument of the Cristo Redentor (Redeeming Christ), located at 3.800 m. (12.460 ft.) of altitude, just at the limit of both countries. Raised as a wish of both peoples to keep the peace, from here one can get a spectacular view of the glaciated mountains of Tolosa and Juncal, and enormous valleys located east and west of this pass.

We will continue in our vehicle, to then after taking care of the procedure of returning to Chile, visit the beautiful Lagoon of the Inca, at 2.880 m. (9.443 ft.) of altitude. This great lagoon, or small lake, is surrounded with the steep and imposing mountains Tres Hermanos and Parva del Inca. This way we will return to Santiago, after and exiting day where you will have found yourself in front of America 's Giant and other beautiful places of the Andes.
